UFO Week:  March 25-29th

Think of it as Spring Cleaning:  moving your UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) from the inactive pile to Showoff Status.  Each day of this week, the North Fork Stitches Knitting Doctors will be revved up and ready to help you rescue those projects gathering dust in your knitting pile.  Make an appointment:  One hour of undivided attention will cost you $20, and help you put a checkmark in the finished column of a long undone project.

First Time Projects

First Mittens:  Everyone loves mittens – to wear or to give!  Learn this basic pattern and you’ll be making them for all the men, women, and kids in your life.  Two sessions, Tues. 2/26 and Wed., 2/27, 10am-12pm.  ($40)

First Top-Down Sweater:  A great basic sweatermaking technique you can use to create easy-knit sweaters that require almost no finishing!  Once you knit a sweater from the top down, you’ll be hooked on this clever approach.  This three-part class will show you the ropes, and you can choose to make your pullover for any size person, baby to adult.   Three sessions, Tues. 2/12, 2/26, 3/4 3-5 pm.  ($60)

Next Steps .  . .

Creative Felting – Make a Fabulous Bag!  Use a basic pattern to make a one-of-a-kind felted bag.  You make the design decisions:  leather or knitted handle, stripes or novelties thrown in, tall and skinny or wide and expansive.  We’ll walk you through all the things you might not have done:  picking up stitching, attached I-cords, even the felting itself.  Three sessions, Tues. 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 12:30-2:30 pm  ($60)

Introduction to Fair Isle:  Learn the basics of two-color stranded knitting in this informative class.  Make a hat or a bag as you practice, holding one yarn in your left hand and one yarn in your right.  Two sessions, Thurs. 2/28 and 3/6, 1-3 pm  ($40)

The Cardigan De-Mystified!  Take the plunge:  you can make a cardigan!  You’ll pick your pattern, then learn the tricks of buttonholes, button bands, and perfectly matched sleeves and sides.  Let us free you of your cardigan knitting phobias in this three-part class.  A choice of designs will be offered.  Three sessions, Thurs. 4/3, 4/17, 5/1, 1-3 pm  ($60)

Designer Neckwarmer:  Maybe you’ve heard it called “the Pidge,  the “Fidget,” or some other cute name.  But the bottom line is that it’s a quick-knit short scarf, secured at the neck with two or more buttons, and fashionable women and men are wearing it coast to coast.  You may not finish your neckwarmer in this session, but you’ll master the pattern stitch and learn how to make the buttonholes so you can finish it on your own in no time.  One session.  Fri. 3/7, 2-4 pm.  ($20)

Take the Next Step in Crocheting:  You know how to chain, and do single and double crochet.  Maybe you make scarves or crochet the same baby blanket over and over.  Take your crocheting to the next level on Wednesday mornings with Bea.  You’ll learn to follow a pattern, and make a variety of “next-step” projects such as fingerless gloves, hats, and shawls. 2nd Wednesday of the month, 12:30-2:30 pm ($20 per session.)  You must call to register in advance.  Buy three sessions to start  -- 2/13, 3/12, and 4/9 -- and receive the terrific reference book Crocheter’s Companion as our gift.
